Clean Air Through Auto Innovation

Today, the Tesla Team pushed its new agenda against air pollution in their vehicles with their Bioweapon Defense HEPA Air Filtration System. The newly designed 2016 models are designed to avoid collisions. Tesla is going an extra step forward to not only avoid accidents but its occupants from air pollution inside the vehicle but outside as well.

We examine the basics of the innovation and rate the novelty of the innovaion below.

The Innovation

Bioweapon Defense Mode - HEPA filtration system. Cleans the air inside a car and around the exterior of the car. The filtration system was tested in the United States and in China on packed roads, smelly marshes, landfills, and cow pastures. Tesla wanted to ensure that it captured fine particulate matter and gaseous pollutants, as well as bacteria, viruses, pollen and mold spores.

To test the innovation in a controlled space, Tesla placed their Model X in a large bubble with extreme levels of pollution and activated the Bioweapon Defense system. The system also cleans the air around the vehicle as well.

The Innovative Specifications

The Bioweapon Defense HEPA filtration system is designed to strip the outside air of pollen, bacteria, and pollution before the air enters the interior occupant space of the vehicle. The filtration system scrubs the air inside the cabin to eliminate traces of harmful particles. Then, it begins to vacuum the air outside of the car as well making things better for those around you. "You can literally survive a military grade bio attack by sitting in your car" (Tesla, 2016).

The system will be in Tesla Model X and Model S now in production.

YEA or NAY

NAY: We anticipate most vehicles will have this feature within the next couple of years. Ford has been including similar technology in their Ford Escape since 2013. Moreover, independent car owners have been replacing their standard car filters with HEPA filters since 2011.

Tesla is the first car however to design a car around the system. Could they have innovated something better? We think so. We are excited to see new technology from the world's current automobile-tech giant leading the era of sustainability.

The HEPA filtration system technology was patented on March 1, 1994 by Byron S Tepper and Robert S Suchomski. Currently, the patent is owned by The John Hopkins University.
